some information about La Tigra de San Carlos area

La Tigra is located in north central Costa Rica (San Carlos), on the Atlantic slope of the Tilaran mountain range, 30 kilometers (19 miles) due east of Montverde, 45 kilometers (28 miles) north of San Ramon and due west of Ciudad Quesada. It is a 1 1/2 hour drive from the San Jose airport

The average rainfall is 3.9 meters per year, primarily falling in May to December. During our dry season there is usually a maximum of 30 days without rain. Temperature range is 62-84 degrees Fahrenheit. The soils of farms and building site properties are of volcanic origin and well drained.

We are located on a "flyway" for migrating birds and butterflies. One can see hundreds, or sometimes even thousands, of hawks, swallowtail kites and vultures. There are more than 270 bird species in this area,  including quetzals, bell birds, umbrella birds, trogans, toucans, parrots and various seasonal songbirds.

More than 450 species of butterflies have also been identified in this area.  Wildlife abounds in and all around the farms, and three types of cats and jaguar tracks have been seen on various property - I have actuall seen one of the Costa Rica Tigras early one morning chasing a large catlike appearance animal

Lake Arenal, Arenal volcano and Tabacon hot springs are about 45 minutes away on paved road and
shopping in the major city of Ciudad Quesada (aka San Carlos) is about 30 minutes to our east -

There are many natural waterfalls and beautiful view settings in our geographic area and we invite you
to see what we have to offer and how our lifestyle is a bit different from the stressed out metropolitan areas
